There are a lot of things to consider when packing for college, but here are a few essential things to bring when you first arrive:

  • Bedroom: Of course, you want to personalize your bedroom so you can feel right at home, but before making your room cozy and cute, think of essential items like storage boxes/containers, hangers, a mattress topper, and bedding.

  • Bathroom: The bathroom is a sacred space and you want your sacred space to have all the needed items to stay refreshed and clean. Make sure to bring bath towels, shower curtain, bath mats, a plunger. Any type of bathroom cleaning supplies or paper products are probably best to purchase after you move in to save space in your vehicle.

  • Kitchen: Food is key for our survival and as college students managing money by preparing home cooked meals will help save a ton of money. Make sure to bring pots/pans, cooking utensils, plates/bowls, and a filtered water jug.

  • Miscellaneous cleaning supplies: You do not want a dirty apartment. When you get to Austin make sure to buy cleaning supplies like a broom, swiffer, clorox wipes, and trash bags.

  • Discuss with your roommates who brings what and what y’all are willing to share!

While this list may seem hefty, make sure for the first couple days of moving in you have your essentials like any type of toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, your favorite moisturizer, face wash, and body wash. Do not forget to bring your favorite blanket and pillow to feel cozy. Lastly, some water because more likely than not you will need a water break from all the moving. Good luck moving in!
